Abstract

Recent studies show that mathematical literacy is trending downward, coinciding with a greater reliance on technology (e.g., smart phones) to offload cognitive processes. Across three studies (n = 360, in total), we found little evidence of critical calculator usage, though individual differences in numeracy and concrete problem presentation facilitated performance.
