Base Rate Neglect in the Interpretation of Statistical Results

Abstract

College graduates with degrees from BA to PhD read one of three news articles about a statistically significant research finding. Base rate information in the articles had little influence on the interpretation of study results, even for participants with the most statistical experience. Implications for statistical training are discussed.
