Abstract

We set out to discover if expressing emotion can alleviate anxiety, improving performance. Participants were assigned to wait (control), write about their feelings, or draw their feelings before a math test. The drawing condition outperformed the control condition, indicating that expressing emotion without a narrative structure can improve performance.
