Explicit Teaching of Critical Thinking Improves Students’ Critical Thinking Knowledge and Skills in an Online Course

Abstract
Students in online developmental psychology classes were assigned weekly assignments that involved critically analyzing media reports of psychological studies and critically evaluating position statements in discussions of controversial issues. In a pretest/posttest design, students showed no change in critical thinking dispositions, but significant improvements in critical thinking knowledge and skills.
