Abstract
This mixed-methods study examined voluntary laptop and laptop-free zones in two psychology courses (N = 168). Students in laptop-free zones performed better on immediate quizzes, but differences disappeared at delayed recall. Open-ended responses revealed motivational and practical reasons for seating choice, offering insights into balancing autonomy and attention in classrooms.
