Abstract

Romantic partners frequently make sacrifices for each other, but how does sacrifice impact relationships? We propose that it depends on how couples communicate about sacrifice and the cultural context. We found that the sacrificer’s victimizing behavior led to recipients feeling more frustrated in the U.S but more guilty in Singapore.
