Representation Matters: Hyper-Minoritized Students Are More Likely to Relate and Engage with Content from a Demographically Similar Instructor

Abstract
Feeling connected to a meaningful community influences students’ engagement and motivation. We find that perceived demographic similarity plays a crucial role in how students relate to an instructor, and therefore how they interact with educational content. You have to see your identity in an instructor to feel like you belong.
