How False Memory Impacts Fear Generalization: A MEG Investigation

Do people distort their memories of past fear experiences? Combining the Deese-Roediger-McDermott paradigm with fear conditioning, we showed robust false memories of fear which later led to avoidance behavior. Magnetoencephalography evidence revealed that false fear memories elicited avoidance via impacting connectivity among hippocampus, prefrontal cortex, and the temporal pole.
