What Values Best Distinguish the World’s Cultures? Insights from an Abductive Approach Based on Predictive Modeling

When seeking to explain cross-cultural differences in psychological tendencies and behaviors, researchers typically focus on a narrow range of constructs (e.g., individualism-collectivism). Across four studies (N=349, 500), this research used machine learning to uncover a broader set of values to explain cultural differences in important behavioral outcomes over-and-above existing constructs.
