Abstract

This study examined how reminders of climate change and mortality impact identity defenses and environmental attitudes in a college-age sample (N=273). Results indicated that mortality salience through both death and climate reminders decreased pro-environmental attitudes and increased outgroup degradation, highlighting the existential nature of climate change and its psychological impacts.
