Children Consider Unique Similarities As More Meaningful Cues to Affiliation

Abstract

Using a third-party friendship inference task, we found that children (n = 95, age 4 to 12) tended to rely more on cues of shared preferences than cues of shared gender to infer others’ friendship relations. This tendency was slightly stronger when the shared preferences were rare rather than common.
