The Influence of Light on the Visual Perception of Aesthetic Material Properties

The relationship between perceived surface properties and aesthetic impressions of more than 600 materials was investigated in two consecutive laboratory studies, considering the influence of different lighting situations. As a result, a comprehensive perception model was derived that can enable the systematic addressing of aesthetic material applications in the future.
