Abstract

Actual self (AS) and ideal self (IS) discrepancies result in dejected-related emotions, while AS and ought self (OS) discrepancies result in agitation-related emotions. First-generation college students (FGCS) often experience these discrepancies. Negative affect (NA) decreases academic self-efficacy (ASE). Thus, FGCS experiencing self-discrepancies may experience NA, therefore decreasing ASE levels.
