Abstract
This study applied the framework of everyday stress (uplifts and hassles) to social media use (SMU). On average, 550 adolescents from the USA (13-17 years old; 50% female, 37% White) reported greater exposure, diversity, and intensity for uplifts. Self-esteem also emerged as a key protective factor, supporting the rich-get-richer perspective.
