The Benefits of Negative Interactions in Close Relationships

Sunday, May 29, 2022 · Chicago, IL

Oral · Social

Negative communication, emotions, and motivations have traditionally been viewed as undermining relationship quality. Using diverse samples (close friends, dating, and long-term married couples) and methodologies (longitudinal, observational, experimental), four talks present a nuanced view of when, how, and why negative interactions may be beneficial in close relationships.
