Abstract

Psychologists have been moving away from categorizing p-values as “statistically significant” based on a .05 boundary. Nevertheless, we find a Categorical Perception Effect (CPE) when graduate students in the psychological sciences process p-values across this boundary. This may be due to statistical training: undergraduates do not not show this CPE.
