Politicized Messaging, Affective Polarization, and Social Norms: Understanding Worldwide Support for Covid-19 Policy

Experiments across seven countries show that individuals support Covid-19 policies more when their own party’s political leaders propose the policy than when the other party’s leaders do, and more when experts propose the policy than when politicians do. Affective polarization and social norms can help explain these patterns.
