Global and Local Status Threats Both Lead to Increased Jargon Use

Virtual

Oral · Social Psychology

We hypothesise that low status, both global (i.e., between group) and local (i.e., within group), increases jargon use in conspicuous circumstances. We tested this using 7 years of poster titles from a large academic conference and find that global and local status concerns both independently predicted jargon use.
