Understanding the Sacred: Linking Sacred Values and Contagion Beliefs

Eight studies (N= 4,215) indicate that contagion plays a central role in our experience of the sacred and may enable our experience of the sacred as transcendental.
Collectively, these results indicate that magical thinking, specifically contagion beliefs, augment the psychological experience of sacred values.
