Reflected in the Mirror: Gazing into the Body Image Concerns of Gay Men

Virtual

Oral · Developmental Psychology

The Mirror Paradigm (MP) was employed to assess body dissatisfaction and body shame in gay men. Body shame was positively correlated with increased postural rigidity, appearance-monitoring, mirror avoidance, and self-surveillance in front of the mirror. Gay men who experienced body shame discussed their bodies more negatively and engaged in self-criticism.
