Where the Blame Lies: Unpacking Groups Shifts Judgments of Blame in Intergroup Conflict

As a side of a social issue is “unpacked,” individuals are more likely to allocate blame to the unpacked side. Five preregistered experiments (N=3,342) found support for this novel hypothesis across three intergroup conflicts: the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, racial tensions in the U.S., and the gender wage gap.
