It's a Manipulated Variable: Using Intuitive Terminology for Experimental Design Improves Recognition of Design Features
In a between subjects experiment, undergraduate students (all multilinguals) read an extensive introduction to experimental design that used either conventional ("independent variable") or intuitive ("manipulated variable") terminology. Even two months later, performance on follow-up comprehension tests was superior for the intuitive terminology group.
