Can Humans Detect a Wandering Mind? Attentiveness As a Form of Social Exchange

In two studies, we identified cues for mind wandering and attentiveness by combining averted/directed gaze with low/high facial expressivity. We then used these cues to investigate how perceived attentiveness affects individuals’ judgment of others in role-defined relationships using conversational topic relevance as a moderator.
