Beliefs about Abstraction: Low-Level and High-Level Construal Signal Different Lay Theories and Impact Formation Impression

Virtual

Oral · Social Psychology

This research investigates whether people perceive others’ construal level preference as signaling different views about motivation and learning. Across seven experiments (N = 900), we show that people associate abstract thinking with incremental theories and concrete thinking with entity-oriented beliefs; our findings highlight how those beliefs influence social judgement.
