When Effort Is Less Costly and Valued More: The Type of Motivation Matters

While effort is generally considered costly, motivational determinants of effortful goals may explain why some instances of effort are aversive, while some are not. Higher autonomous motivational orientation predicted less effort discounting, while the opposite was found for controlled motivational orientation. This was further examined in a healthy eating goal.
