Promoting Cooperation Against Covid-19: Contrasting the Motivations for Practicing Covid-19 Mitigating Behaviors Under Low Versus High Governmental Trust

Across three studies (N=1377), five countries (Turkey, USA, Romania, Italy and China) and two stages of the outbreak, our research found that the effect of Covid-19 fear to predict Covid-19 mitigating behaviors is strongest when governmental trust is low, and that fear and prosocial concerns operate in a compensatory way.
