“Train Now Arriving”: A Study of Auditory Looming Using Naturalistic Stimuli

Virtual

Oral · Sensation and Perception

This study explored the contributions of changing loudness and frequency to the perception of auditory looming. Participants heard trains passing at high speed that were recorded using binaural head-form microphones. Time to arrival was generally underestimated, with special attention given to lower volume higher frequency components of the stimulus.
