Free-Range Haptic Search: Finding Targets without Vision

Virtual

Oral · Cognitive Psychology

In a free-range odd-ball search task, subjects found a target among distractors using just their sense of touch, ability to manipulate the object, and affordances of the environment. Addition of a visual preview of trial condition, prior to searching, did not improve search times but did increase accuracy.
