Loyalty in Exchange: Perceived Relative Deprivation, Felt Obligation and Citizen Exchange Ideology on National Identification

From a social contract perspective, a study on Singaporean young adults found a negative relationship between perceived relative deprivation and national identification, mediated by lower felt obligation to the nation. The indirect effect was only present for individuals who perceived the citizen-nation relationship in exchange terms.
