System-Level Mobility of a Learning Environment Moderates the Effectiveness of Growth Mindsets

Across a large cross-national dataset and a longitudinal experiment, we demonstrate how educational mobility robustly moderated the academic benefits of growth mindsets and increased the potential for mindsets to narrow the achievement gap between advantaged and disadvantaged students. The findings caution the use of resource-intensive interventions across different contexts.
