Emotion Malleability Beliefs Influence State Emotion Regulation and Emotional Resilience Among Individuals with Depressive Symptoms
Participants with at least mild depressive symptoms who underwent an experimental manipulation teaching that emotion is malleable reported greater use of cognitive reappraisal and greater emotional recovery during a state negative emotion induction compared to participants in the control condition. Implications for targeted clinical intervention and research are discussed.
