Trust and Trust Funds: People Have Less Faith in Those with Higher Socioeconomic Status (SES)

Virtual

Oral · Social Psychology

Across four pre-registered behavioral studies using economic games, people placed more trust in a partner who had relatively low (versus high) SES. This occurred regardless of people’s own SES, and was mediated by stereotypes of the lower-SES partner as warmer, and thus more trustworthy, than the upper-class partner.
