Climate Denial Fuels Climate Change Discussions More Than Local Climate-Related Disasters

Using language from online discussions on Reddit, we explore what types of events motivate discussions on climate change. Findings suggest that political events, especially the election of leaders denying climate change is more likely to motivate and sustain climate change engagement than local life-threatening natural disasters or global policy events.
