The Limited Benefits of Using Virtual Reality 360-Videos to Promote Empathy and Charitable Giving
A pre-registered randomized control trial finds that a virtual reality 360-video promotes temporary increases in self-reported emotional empathy towards child refugees. Critically, however, this intervention is no more effective than an audiobook at increasing cognitive empathy and does not prompt greater real-word donations to charity.
