Radical Pro-Environmental Change As Loss: A Qualitative Study of How Degrowth Is Perceived within a French Speaking Swiss Sample.
A qualitative thematic analysis studied the extent to which reactions to degrowth environmental measures are perceived as existential losses. Results show that participants evaluated the measures’ efficiency, and then voiced fear of freedom and comfort loss, and avoidance of extremism. The implications for an existentialist environmental psychology are discussed.
