The Swedish New Third-Person Singular Pronoun Hen Is Truly Gender-Inclusive

Gender-fair language aims to identify inclusive language. In two experiments, we tested how inclusive supposedly neutral Swedish third-person pronouns singular were. In two experiments, participants read about someone referred to as either he/she or as the Swedish pronoun hen. Results indicated that hen, but not he/she, was truly gender-inclusive.
