It’s Lonely at the Top, If You're Narcissistic: The Unexpected Cost of Narcissism in Success

Five studies show that people high in narcissism report greater shame in response to success. This surprising pattern may be due to these individuals’ dissatisfaction with others’ responses to their success. Findings indicate that examining emotional responses to success may counterintuitively allow for the empirical emergence of narcissists’ latent insecurities.
