Motivated Music Makers: A Basis for Musical Contingent Self-Worth

Virtual

Oral · Personality/Emotion Psychology

Prior research on musical ability has focused on genetic propensity and training rather than motivation. To address this, we validated a measure of musical contingent self-worth, the extent to which self-esteem is dependent on demonstrating musical ability. Results show that it predicts objective musical competence above and beyond music training.
