Expanding the Definition of Rape Acknowledgment
A novel measure of “rape acknowledgment” assessed labels other than “rape,” individuals’ certainty with their answers, and peritraumatic factors. When offered additional descriptors, 67% of “unacknowledged” rape survivors do acknowledge that sexual violence occurred. This expanded, comprehensive definition of acknowledgment is needed to further research effects on posttraumatic outcomes.
