Is Planned Indulgence a Self-Regulation Strategy in Goal Pursuit?

Virtual

Oral · Social Psychology

Five studies, including surveys, a field study, and laboratory experiments, showed that planned indulgence is preferred by high (vs low) self-regulators and predicts more immediate and long-term benefits than spontaneous indulgence. Findings suggested that incorporating planned indulgence via tempting activities into long-term goal pursuit could be an adaptive self-regulation strategy.
