Dual Benefits of Emotion Conversations for Children: Spontaneous Disclosure and Decreased Stress

Virtual

Oral · Developmental Psychology

We examined how fact-focused versus emotion-focused conversations impacted children’s event disclosure and distress following a stressful event. Children in the emotion-focused condition reported more spontaneous event details compared to children in the fact-focused condition. Children with low emotion-regulation skills reported decreases in stress following the emotion conversation.
