Stigma and Juror Bias Toward Mentally Ill Defendants
The current study examined how the presence of a mental illness in a criminal defendant influences individuals’ perceptions of the defendant’s guilt, and the effects of varying mental illnesses on the perception of guilt. Participants in conditions including a mental illness diagnosis were more likely to render a guilty verdict.
