To Pursue or Not to Pursue STEM: Faculty Behavior Can Enhance or Undermine Student Involvement By Signaling Role-Specific Support

We examined the faculty-student relationship as an understudied and influential mechanism through which students infer whether they have a place in scientific fields. We find that when STEM faculty behavior implies that they will provide role-specific support, it increases students’ interest in and involvement in STEM paths.
