Orthorexia Nervosa and Substance Use for the Purposes of Weight Control, Conformity, and Emotional Coping

From an online survey study investigating associations between orthorexia and substance use, total orthorexia scores were unrelated to use/abuse of nicotine, alcohol, and most illicit drugs, but they were positively correlated with illicit depressant use, weight-control motivations for smoking, and conformity and coping motivations for alcohol and illicit drug use.
