Childhood Abuse and Genetic Risk for Obesity in Adulthood: Results from a National Study

Virtual

Oral · Behavioral Genetics

Findings demonstrate that emotional abuse in childhood may be a ubiquitous environmental exposure that influences adult obesity (waist circumference and BMI) irrespective of genetic risk. In contrast, physical abuse exposure when present with other types of abuse, is detrimental for BMI among individuals with high genetic risk for BMI.
