Getting Workplace Inclusion Straight: Natural Hairstyles as a Diversity Cue in Recruitment Material
We find evidence that Black women may use hairstyles in recruitment material as a diversity cue. Specifically, Black (but not White) women find recruitment material with Afrocentric (vs. Eurocentric) hairstyles more attractive. Findings suggest that hair may be a medium for attenuating, or exacerbating, racial inequity in the workplace.
