Modeling Psychopathology: From Data Models to Formal Theories

We investigate three different ways in which statistical models can be used to develop formal theories of mental disorders. Based on this analysis, we put forward a framework for generating, developing, and testing formal theories both in the domain of psychopathology and in the broader field of psychological science.
