Framing Uncanniness: Human-like Descriptions of Robots Produce Uncanny Feelings

Virtual

Oral · Social Psychology

Do human-like descriptions of robots cause uncanny feelings? Studies show that robots with a human-like appearance are perceived as uncanny, but it is unclear whether mere descriptions also produce uncanniness. Our findings show that framing robots as possessing human-like minds do elicit uncanny feelings, beyond appearance.
