General Information

What is the 2021 APS Virtual Convention?  

The 2021 APS Virtual Convention is an interactive online two-day event that combines program components from both the APS Annual Convention and the International Convention of Psychological Science (ICPS). 

When will the Convention open and what are the times of the sessions?  

The first live event is scheduled for Wednesday, May 26, at 10:00AM EDT (-4 UTC) with the Opening Keynote Address, and the last live event will take place on Thursday, May 27, at 4:00PM EDT (-4 UTC). Please view the Event Calendar for the complete program schedule.

Are there networking opportunities planned during the Convention?  

There are plenty of opportunities to maintain valuable connections with your colleagues and make new contacts.  From speed-networking to focused roundtable discussion, hot topic sessions, mentoring events, and live-chatting with speakers, presenters and exhibitors.

Registration 

What are the registration fees and how do I register for the Convention? 

  • APS Member $209 
  • APS Student Affiliate Member $99 (For current APS Graduate or Undergraduate Student Affiliates)  
  • APS Retired Member $99 
  • Non-Member $549 

If I register and then cannot attend, will I receive a refund?  

 All registration cancellations and refund requests must be made in writing by the deadline of April 30, 2021; no refunds will be issued after April 30, 2021. A refund of the convention fee, minus a 30% cancellation fee, will be given for cancellations received by April 30, 2021. Substitutions are accepted prior to the convention. The individual submitting the substitution request is responsible for all financial obligations (any balance due) associated with that substitution. Submit all cancellation and substitution requests to the APS Meetings Department via email at [email protected]. Access to the convention is strictly limited to the registered individual. Sharing your convention login credentials or convention content is strictly prohibited. 

How do I find my receipt for the 2021 APS Virtual Convention?    

Open your APS profile and go to the purchase option to print or resend your receipt. 

Participating Virtually

When will the Convention open and what are the times of the sessions?

How do I access the Convention?   

Registered attendees will be able to access the convention from the Convention homepage beginning May 26, 2021. You’ll need to login to access. Check out “Tips for Virtual Success” for more information.

Where do I send my accessibility request? 

APS is committed to ensuring that the Convention is fully accessible to all persons. There will be live ASL interpreters and closed captioning for the invited program. Closed captioning is included for all flash talks. If you have a specific accessibility requirement, please contact the APS Meetings Department by email at [email protected] before April 15, 2021, so that adequate time is provided to work with our software developer. Every attempt will be made to accommodate your request.

How long will the on-demand program be available to registered attendees? 

On-demand content programming featured during the 2021 APS Virtual Convention will be accessible for 30 days post-event for viewing through June 28, 2021. All live sessions will be available on-demand after they air. The VPS featuring posters and Flash Talks will remain available to attendees until September 1, 2021.

Are CEUs offered for the Virtual Convention?   

CEUs are not offered at the 2021 APS Virtual Convention. 

Is there a recommended web browser for accessing the Convention?   

We recommend that you use Google Chrome to optimally access the 2021 APS Virtual Convention.  

Can I access the convention on my phone or tablet?  

Yes, you can access the 2021 APS Virtual Convention on your phone or tablet- we recommend that you use the Google Chrome application to do so.  

How do I find a specific session?  

You can browse the different types of sessions from the “Sessions” tile in the main lobby. Click on the “Sessions” tile from the main lobby, then click on the tile for the type of session you’re looking for. You’ll be able to browse all sessions in that category.

To search for a session by title, presenter name or other information relating to the session, click on the “Sessions” tile from the main lobby, then click on one of the session tiles in the sessions lobby to be able to use the search bar in the top right of the sessions list. 

You can browse all posters and flash talks from the “Virtual Poster Showcase” or “Flash Talks” tiles in the main lobby. To search for a poster or flash talk by title, presenter name or other information relating to the poster or flash talk, click on the “Virtual Poster Showcase” or “Flash Talks” tile from the main lobby and select “Search” in the left hand navigation. How do I add a session to my schedule?  

You can add any session to your personal 2021 APS Virtual Convention schedule by clicking “add to schedule” to the right of the session listing.

To access your personal 2021 APS Virtual Convention schedule, select “My Schedule” at the top of the left hand navigation.

How do I interact with presenters and attendees?  

You have a few ways to make valuable connections with attendees and presenters in the 2021 APS Virtual Convention. Please keep in mind the APS Code of Conduct when interacting with presenters and attendees.

Poster and Flash Talk Discussion Boards

If you have a specific comment or question for the authors of a poster or flash talk you can post a comment or question on the poster or flash talk’s listing – you’ll see this option right below the ‘View Virtual Poster’ option. The authors of the poster will receive a notification that a comment has been added, giving them the opportunity to respond. You’ll be notified via email as soon as there is a response to your comment. We encourage you to post questions and comments to initiate and invite discussion for the sharing of psychological science.  Please note your contact information will not be shared in doing so. 

Live Session Chats

You can engage with live session presenters by utilizing the “Live Chat” function for any session. This is a great way to ask questions and make comments during the live events. Presenters will be able to respond in real-time.

Hot Topics

Hot Topic Sessions are small group discussions where Convention attendees can lead a discussion to engage and connect with other researchers who share similar interests. Each session will be limited to 10 participants and will last approximately 30 minutes. Check out the full schedule.

Speed Networking

Speed networking allows you to forge meaningful connections with other psychological scientists in quick face-to-face conversations. When you enter the session you will be matched with someone and you’ll have a few minutes to get to know each other. You will be armed with some conversation starters and have the option to exchange information if you want to keep the conversation going. You might meet your next research partner!

A dedicated mentoring speed networking session will be held to give students and established researchers a chance to connect. Register for Speed Networking.

Roundtable Discussions

These discussions allow for a deep-dive into topics like research techniques, challenges, and professional development with your peers. Discussions will be led by prominent psychological scientists.

Peer-to-Peer Meetings

This networking option allows you to schedule a one-on-one meeting with someone from the APS community. These meetings will be done via your own meetings software, like zoom, teams, webex or just a phone call, depending on what communication style works best for you.

Sponsors and Exhibitors

Will there be an opportunity to meet with exhibitors and sponsors during the Virtual conference?  

Yes, there will be opportunities to engage with exhibitors and sponsors to learn more about the latest research tools and trends, publications, services and more by visiting the Virtual Exhibit Hall. 

Information for Poster and Flash Talk Presenters

Is there still time to submit to the 2021 APS Virtual Convention?  

The 2021 submission process has closed.   

What was the deadline to upload my presentation?

Flash Talk videos were due on May 10, 2021. 

Posters were due on May 12, 2021.

Can I edit my presentation once it is uploaded?  

Once your presentation is uploaded, you cannot make any changes. 

Will I give a talk about my poster?  

You have the option to create an enhanced virtual poster with synced audio. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with poster presenters via discussion board. 

Will I be presenting my poster or Flash Talk live?

No. Uploaded Flash Talks and Posters will be available until September 1st. They will not be presented live, as submissions were uploaded in advance. At the convention, people will be able to ask questions and make comments on a submission in a discussion board area (for which presenters/attending authors will receive a notification when a question or comment is made, allowing them to respond). The discussion area on the submission is asynchronous, and available for the duration until September 1st.

How long should my Flash Talk be?   

Flash talks offer the opportunity for authors to present their research in a 10- to 15-minute pre-recorded video.  

How do I include my poster or flash talk in the 2021 APS Virtual Convention?  

To participate in the 2021 APS Virtual Convention you’ll need to: 

  • Submit your final poster or flash talk by the deadline in the APS speaker center (all presenters were emailed a link). 
  • Register for the 2021 APS Virtual Convention to be able to interact with attendees and answer any questions about your poster. You can also ask questions of other poster presenters. Please register using the same email address that you used on your submission. 

How do I list my presentation on my CV?  

Please refer to APA guidelines for listing a conference presentation. The name of the event is “2021 APS Virtual Convention” and the dates are May 26–September 1, 2021. For more information, see the APA Guidelines

Do I have to be a member to present my poster or flash talk  at the Convention?  

The first author of a submission, whether this person is attending the Convention, must be an APS Member or APS Student Affiliate at the time of the presentation. Submitters do not need to be members to submit proposals or to have proposals reviewed. Please note that you must log in to your APS Member Profile or create an account to create a submission. 

What is the APS Code of Conduct?  

APS is committed to science being conducted, discussed, presented, and published in ways that promote the lively and productive exchange of ideas. To demonstrate this commitment, APS expects all convention attendees, whether interacting in-person or virtually, to conduct themselves professionally and, out of respect for others and for the spirit of our gathering, refrain from actions or speech that could reasonably be construed as harassing or personally disparaging.  

Unacceptable behavior includes, but is not limited to:  

  • Intimidating, harassing, abusive, discriminatory, derogatory, or demeaning speech or actions.  
  • Harmful or prejudicial spoken or written comments or visual images related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability, or other personal characteristics, including those protected by U.S. law.  
  • Inappropriate use of nudity and/or sexual images.  
  • Real or implied threat of professional or financial damage or harm.  
  • Inappropriate disruption of meetings or events.  

Guidelines 
Please see the following guidelines regarding presentations, activity, and content in the 2021 APS Virtual Convention:   

  • Sharing screen shots, photographs, video, or audio recording of oral or poster presentations, slides, Q&A, and chat room activity without the express consent of presenters and APS is prohibited.   
  • Participants are expected to comply immediately with any request to stop a behavior that violates the code of conduct.   
  • Data collection is expected to be completed in accordance with governing ethical and legal standards.  
  • Access to the Virtual Convention is strictly limited to the registered individual. Sharing login credentials is prohibited.  

Reporting misconduct to APS:  
Report misconduct to APS at [email protected]. 

Consequences of misconduct may include: 

  • Immediate removal from Convention without refund.  
  • Restriction from participation in future APS meetings and events.  
  • Termination of APS membership or positions on current or future boards, panels and committees. 

After the Convention

How can I request a Certificate of Attendance? 

To obtain your Certificate of Attendance (Available After May 28, 2021):

Step One: Please log in to the APS website using the email address and password you used to create your profile/purchase registration.

Step Two: Select My Profile, and proceed to the ‘Purchases’ Tab (it is the fourth tab to the right of Overview).

Step Three: Under the ‘Purchases’ tab, click on the ‘Events’ label (it is the sixth one in the selection beginning with Recent Orders). There, you will see in the ‘Registered Events section’, the event you attended, featuring: “2021 APS Virtual Convention, Your Name, The Date You Registered, Event Start/End Date, and a blue button named ‘Details’”.

Step 4: Select ‘Details’ (blue button), and on the next page under ‘Event Attendees’, you will see a blue button titled ‘Download Certificate’. Click that button, and in the following prompt, press okay and download the certificate.

How can I request a Certificate of Participation? 

Flash talk and poster presenters will be emailed a Certificate of Participation the week of May 31. Presenters must attend the Convention and be paid in full to receive a Certificate of Participation.
