Abstract

This study examined impact of social media usage on self-perception. Based on Festinger’s (1954) social comparison theory, researchers hypothesized social media usage could affect one’s self-perception in a positive and/or negative direction. Almost half of college sample indicated negative self-perception change: they felt worse about themselves after using social media.
